Developing an idea
When I think about making videogames, many of my ideas focus on implementing some kind of callendar or time management system. I love games like Persona o Yakuza series and I've always thought about make a game using this type of structure
At the same time, I love too 2D action games like Katana Zero or any metroidvania or soulslike. So many times I found myself thinking about how combine them.
Currently I'm still working on that idea, but years ago I decided to aproach by starting with the combat system.

I developed everything from scratch with the intention of learning and practicing important fundamentals, such as coding the character movement and other basic actions. However, the most interesting part came when I had to define the enemy's behavior and the interactions between player and NPCs.
One of the systems I implemented allowed enemies to chase you across the level while taking into account which paths they could and couldn’t use. For example, the player can jump over railings connecting different rooms. If an enemy can’t do the same, it will try to find an alternative route to catch up to you.
As for interactions, one of the mechanics I most enjoyed implementing was the ability to push stunned enemies. When they’re knocked back by a hit, they can knock over other enemies or crash into walls, creating little unexpected situations during combat. It led to some really funny moments.


And, as someone who loves Sekiro, a parry system was a must. I also added a sort of “invisible” stamina meter for enemies and finishing moves.

By the way, I also handled all the visual aspects myself. I really like pixel art, so I decided to take care of that part myself.

Despite all the work that went into it, there isn’t a playable demo as such. The goal of this project was to get these mechanics working and learn along the way. There isn’t a fully designed level, the gameplay still needs a lot of polishing, and, of course, there are still a few bugs here and there.
Still, I’d love to revisit this idea someday and develop it further. Doing it alone would be a massive undertaking in terms of time and effort, but who knows.
For now, this is what’s behind this little prototype.
